I am probably one of the few people that LOVE to need glasses!!! I remember trying to fib to the eye Doctor so that I could get glasses and contacts. Well of course it did not work but my Mom still ordered blue contact lenses for me my freshman year of high school (So that I could be cool). Well that lasted about 6 months...fast forward to 2005 when I started working in Optometry and needed my first set of computer glasses at the age of 27.

When I was 32 I graduated to my first pair of progressive lenses. You will not see me go out of the house without 1 of my 7 pairs of glasses!! I love to wear large cateye Tom Ford, Salt, Gucci or Jimmy Choo frames, which are all my favs. My youngest daughter is following in my footsteps wearing Jimmy Choo Amethyst Transitions with Prevencia antiglare (Bougie Baby). Even after 16 years experience in optical, as AcuVision General Manager, my favorite part is to still help Patients choose the perfect frames to wear!

Once upon a time, David purchased a pair of Rayban Sunglasses, non-prescription because of his immaculate 20/20 vision. However, they were polarized of course ;). Those were his favorite sunglasses ever. One day, David was taking his Grandmother to the grocery store like a good young buck. As he was driving off, he heard a crunch…. In the rearview mirror was the horrendous image of his beautiful tortoise shades smashed into smithereens. A tear slowly fell down his cheek…

Growing up, I wanted to be a singer, but my vision changed and I set my sights on optometry. In the second grade, my parents took me to see an optometrist because I was squinting in class. That visit changed my life. I left my first optometry visit knowing I had myopia, astigmatism, and a profound interest in healthcare and the expansive field of optometry.

I initially started wearing glasses at the age of 5! Yup, they were those cute little harry potter ones that may I add, are back in style now! Down the line I joined cross country and cheer leading up to my introduction of contact lenses (simply made being in a sport a lot easier). Throughout the years my prescription kept increasing quite a bit making my glasses pretty heavy!

I ended up having Lasik done in 2019 and let me tell you, it was one of the best decisions I've made, going from a -8.00 with high astigmatism (-3.75cyl) to -0.25 with no astigmatism correction. I still use regular glasses with a blue blocking lens and polarized sunglasses to help protect my eyes as much as possible plus they are super stylish and help tie in any outfit together!

Dr. Eddie Wang

My prescription is -8.00 in both eyes. I wear daily contacts and Gucci glasses that my amazing Manager picked out for me!! I have not gotten LASIK because I am perfectly happy wearing daily disposable contacts. One fun fact is that I have the longest eyeballs in my graduating class! I am in denial that I need multifocal lenses, maybe one day.

My eyewear journey began in 3rd grade when my parents found out at a parent-teacher conference I had been hiding my glasses in a shameful dark corner of my cubby desk. You bet Mrs. Mardis made me wear my round, gold-rimmed, heavy glass specs every day after that. Fast forward -- three years of orthokeratology treatment and several more "cubby desk" glasses later --

a strange man claiming to have the longest eyeballs in his graduating class shoved soft contact lenses in my eyes and I’ve had happy vision ever since. Thanks bro-tometrist Dr. Wang!

I can remember it as clear as day (well, visually, it was more like as clear as a frosted mug) when I realized I would be needing to wear glasses. My best friend asked me to read something off the board in high school. When I told her it was blurry, she looked at the board with her perfect vision and then at me and said, “Jan, you need to go see an eye doctor.” 20+ years later wearing glasses and soft contact lenses of all modalities (I have tried them all!), my -6.50 and astigmatism eyes were ready for a LASIK consult.

Surgery was a success but because of my high prescription and thinner retinas, I still have yearly exams done by my colleagues. For continued eye health, I have polarized sunglasses for UV protection and blue light blocking glasses for extended electronic device use.

I started wearing rigid gas permeable lenses (hard contact lenses) when I was 9 years old! Wearing contact lenses helped me to avoid being a “four-eyed fourth grader”.  My optometrist at the time tried to fit me with ortho-k lenses but due to the corneal topography of my eyes, it was not a good fit. I continued to progress in nearsightedness and now I am about -6.00 with astigmatism. Because of this experience, I have a special interest in myopia management.

Although it seems my -3.75 eyes only continue to become more myopic, I naturally view it as an opportunity to get a new pair of glasses!

My prescription is about -2.00 in each eye and I switch between wearing glasses and biweekly contacts(Acuvue Oasys). I got my first pair of glasses in the second grade— metal, oval, and a ruby to purple ombre. My contacts journey started in high school, shortly after a pirouette and my glasses flying off my face across the gym. I’m still on the hunt for my perfect frame, but my favorite sunglasses are the Remmy by Raen in champagne with a green tint.

I love to express myself every time I wear glasses, but I'm more sunglasses person than clear. I also switch between wearing contacts and like to use Precision 1 Day. My go-to brands are Gucci and Tom Ford and my favorite lenses are a custom Transitions Xtractive with mirror coating. My funkiest pair of glasses are a leopard Dolce and Gabbana!

I was about 10 years old when I got my first pair of glasses. The heavy glasses basically sat in their case until I got soft contact lenses in high school. I loved wearing contacts because I didn’t have to worry about glasses falling off of my face during my Colorguard performances. Now, as a full-time college student, I have transitioned back into my glasses as they provide comfort during my long study sessions. As an optician, I am also able to build my personal eyewear collection as well as patients’ from diverse styles and brands- my favorite being Tom Ford!
